DC Dance AZ's primary goal is to help the individual student become a graceful, poised person with highly developed classical dance skills, self-discipline and an attitude of cooperation and teamwork. Our students are aesthetically prepared to appreciate and support the art of dance for a lifetime.
DC Dance AZ is a non-competition performing arts studio! We a have layered level based curriculum that trains our dancers classically and technically. We see dance as art not a competition.

The Children’s Program introduces children to the art of dance by promoting the exploration of creativity and expression through movement.

DCDA CORE YOUTH PROGRAM follows a carefully designed curriculum with five levels of study. Formal training begins at the Youth Level where the foundation of classical technique is delivered to beginning, intermediate and advanced classes in Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop, Drama, and Tumbling.

Christie has been dancing for 34 years and was classically trained in Jazz, Ballet, Tap and Musical Theatre. She was Captain of Phoenix Country Day School Dance Line and danced for Westmont College’s Hip Hop Crew, NSTEP. She has danced professionally in numerous stage shows such as Seussical the Musical and Alice in Wonderland and for many corporate and gala events. She has instructed kids through adults and opened DC Dance AZ 8 years ago in order to bring back quality dance training to Arizona, like she experience when growing up. Her dream is to inspire students of all ages to love the classical art of dance. Christie is the mother of two and has a BS from Westmont College.
Trisha K. Folk, our Artistic Director is a native Phoenician and has instructed dance, drama and art in Arizona for twenty four years, has trained over 800 students, ages 3 through adult, beginners through professionals and produced over 200 company stage shows. She was the Artistic Director of Arizona Dance Theatre for 15 years and and is a mom of twins, Anna and Bradley who were born December, 2006. She holds a BFA in General Fine Arts from the University of Arizona and advocates for special needs children and serves on the Board of Directors for Autism Society of Greater Phoenix.
Trisha is the recipient of an AriZONI award, Choreographer of the Year 1995, Arizona Performing Artist Association and the National Arts Education Association Award of Excellence for Outstanding Interdisciplinary Studies in the Arts Curriculum; Children’s and Teens Dance Programs and Dance with Drama.
Trisha’s teaching style is a reflection from years of technique-based training and distinguished performance methods. Her students receive the benefit of a world class curriculum, exposing them to multitudes of dance styles while laying a traditional, classical foundation that is necessary to be successful in dance.
Trisha allows students to learn the value of technique-based core training, production and teamwork in a challenging, fun and positive environment while creating memories and success that lasts a lifetime.
Glenda K. Folk is an award winning arts educator honored by the National Art Education Association. In her early career, she was a professional dancer and choreographer working in films, television and stage productions. She and her daughter, Trisha Folk, founded Arizona Dance Theatre, a professional dance, drama and visual arts center that mentored thousands of students in their life-long appreciation of visual and the performing arts. Many students became professional performers under the tutelage of the Folk family. The Folks are noted for developing goal setting, self-discipline and collaborative skills in their students, all within a wholesome, age and stage of development-appropriate setting. Over the years, students testify about how artistic training influenced and enhanced their professional achievements.
Glenda earned three university degrees in visual arts: A BFA, Summa cum Laude, a Master of Arts in art education and a Master of Fine Arts in painting. She has distinguished herself through creating a series of artworks based on her performing arts career, and teaches performing and visual arts through university levels. Glenda was nominated twice for the Governor's Art Award.
Glenda is a motivational speaker at international, national and state conferences, sharing curricula that meet highest, national, educational standards. Glenda developed effective studio art and art history, Advanced Placement programs for urban high schools, and mentors students to meet their educational and professional goals. Glenda is successful in motivating students who are first in their families to attend colleges and universities. She is a published author and produces research based on her interest in achieving equity for females is the visual and performing arts.
Ms. Sydney was born and raised in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She trained at Tabor Dance Academy in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, pointe, and contemporary. Sydney danced competitively for several years, and attended workshops and intensives all over the country. She is thankful to be able to continue dancing and teaching at DC Dance AZ.
Ms. Amber has acted since she was a child and performed in countless productions at universities, playwright festivals and community theaters as well as instructed years of children’s theatre classes. Ms. Amber studied theater at Wesleyan University and The University of Nebraska Kearney. She became a part of the DC Dance AZ family through her daughter dancing at DC Dance AZ for over 7 years. She loves sharing her passion for Theater Arts with our students and seeing them gain confidence in speaking, acting, and performing on stage.
Alma Schnell's background hails 30 years of experience as a director, choreographer, professional dancer, and flamenco, tap, and Mexican folk dance teacher. Alma studied flamenco and Mexican folk dance in Guadalajara, Mexico. By the age of 16, she was professionally dancing with Jose Luis Esparza in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her extensive study of various dance forms with renowned flamenco dancers: Jose Luis Esparza, Luis Triana, Ketty Clavijo, Mario Maya, Dini Roman, Lydia Torea, and renowned tap dancers: Glenda Folk, Charles Goddertz, led her to become the director of Alma Performing Arts, a multicultural dance studio in Scottsdale, Arizona.
In addition to her extensive dance background, Alma has worked with numerous corporate cultural diversity groups in the valley, such as America West Airlines, Society of Hispanic Engineers, Boeing, Best Western, Motorola, Free Scale, Paradise Valley Community College, Scottsdale Community College, etc., for many years. Through her dance company, Alma always gave back to the community through community service with organizations like Friends of the Orphans, De Colores, Brazo Abiertos, and American Cancer Society. She understands culture is an important part of people's identity and worked with the City of Phoenix to develop a program that helped Hispanic children be proud of their heritage through her passion of the arts.

Monthly Tuition Fees are AUTO BILLED ON THE 1ST OF THE MONTH. MONTHLY FEES REMAIN THE SAME REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF LESSONS TAUGHT WITHIN A MONTH DUE TO HOLIDAYS OR REGARDLESS OF CHILD’S ABSENCES. Everyone is required to be on auto bill. We accept VISA, Master Card, Discover, American Express, debit.
